Chapter 21- Dove Hunts

Chapter 21 of “Life Behind the Counter-the Story of Chuck Evans and his Liquor Stores” is about the annual Dove Hunts that Chuck and his dad Maxie hosted each year. September 1 was a magical day each year for us, as that was the first day of Dove Season. In this Chapter, you will read about:

• The work that Chuck and Maxie put in behind the scenes to get the fields ready for a dove hunt.
• My annual practice of skipping school on September 1, along with my encounter with the school principal.
• Details of the great dove hunts during the day and the celebrations each evening.

I was never a good shot, but I enjoyed being in the fields hunting doves each year. A good time was always had by all. Below is a photo of some of the Dove Hunt crew from the late 1980’s.
