Chapter 7 is one of the longer chapters in the book about Chuck and his liquor stores. The title of this Chapter is “1983”, as that year was the toughest year that Chuck endured. In 1983, Chuck went throught the following difficulties:
- Death of his father and partner, Maxie.
- Death of his dear friend who basically ran the farm enterprise for Chuck and Maxie.
- The beginnings of a lawsuit to dissolve the partnership between Chuck, Maxie’s Estate and J. K. Travelsted.
- The beginnings of some serious pressure from PCA, the lender who financed the farm operation.
These four major, stressful events came basically all at once. But the year wasn’t a total loss. A few good things emerged for Chuck, including:
- Chuck began a hobby that he would really enjoy and continue the rest of his life.
- Chuck became involved in a local church.
Life certainly gives us challenges and 1983 was a real challenge for Chuck, as you will read. But tough times don’t last forever and in my next Chapter preview you will hear about the beginnings of Chuck’s flagship store: Chuck Evans’ Liquor Outlet.
Your previews are great, Charlie. I look forward to the release of the book.
Thanks so much!!
